My oldest brother in law, Richard remembers his grandpa pretty well; said that he was a small man in size (like the rest of some Evelands I knew) and was very quiet, but when he wanted to get a point across, you knew he had something to say. He also talked alot about the trips out west, but his brother "Uncle Billy" was the REAL story teller. Jim was mainly a farmer, worked on the railroad tracks (timbers) and also assisted Doc Dameron of Silex. I have come across death certificates showing where he had done several autopsies and or just prepared them for burials. Where they lived at, on Hwy E east of Silex next to the Wilps, the place still stands (2012) at one time it was the mason hall, a bar and a church. Jim also enjoyed making furniture, but unfortunately none of it remained with family. Jim first married Dorah L McCoy, also of Fulton county Ill (1868-1893 on Jul 3 1887, they had 2 children; 1) William Robert Eveland 7 May 1889-6 Dec 1960 and 2) Mary Electa "Molly" Eveland 9 Mar 1891-8 Dec 1960. Jim's 2nd marriage was to Viola Brinegar 1880-1950, she was the daughter of Jacob and Tabitha Cox Perkins Brinegar and they had 8 children 1) Effie Evelyn 1902-1902 2) Jennie Lee 1903-1982, 3) Nora Opal 1904-1904, 4) James Nelson 1906-1985, 5)Howard Chesley 1908-1993, 6) Jacob Gilbert 1911-1911 7) Wilman Woodson 1913-1913, 8) Louis Eugene 1918-1918 Most of this family is buried at the Sitton Cemetery. On special occassions, Nelson, my father in law would go there when the cows weren't all around and place flowers. Most of them had field stones for markers and his parents had iron spokes. All markers are long gone and this family of Evelands wasn't even included in the cemetery census done in 1981 "Gone but Not Forgotten"
