"Services for John Albert Shirley, 72, 1525 W. 15th, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. He died Thursday at his home. He was born March 26, 1891, at Grantville. He was a sales engineer for Allied Chemical Co. of New York 33 years and was a resident of St. Louis 32 years. He moved to Topeka after he retired in 1959. Mr. Shirley was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and Elks Lodge No. 204 in Topeka and Arab Shrine in Kansas City. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nora Conroy Bailey Shirley, and a sister, Miss Gussie Shirley, both of the home."
