Died Sunday morning, May 31, 1896, at 12:35, Mrs. John Hershman, living three miles south of our city. She was born in Ohio December 10, 1849, her maiden name being Flora Slocum. Her childhood, where she married, May 26, 1868. They came to Kansas in 1872, and have lived on their farm south of town many years. One son, two daughters and husband are left to mourn her loss. Mrs. Hershman had many commendable traits of character. Waiting on the sick and afflicted, active in good works, being attentive to the wants of her household, a faithful wife and mother being among them. Before her death she chose the hymns she desired sung at her funeral. Services were held at the house conducted by Rev. Teetor, and the remains were laid to rest in the Effingham cemetery Monday afternoon, followed by an unusually large number of friends and neighbors. She was ill only about four weeks.
