Funeral services for David J. McMeekin of David City were conducted Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10, from David City Memorial Chapel with Rev. Carroll Prouty of Lincoln officiated. Mr. McMeekin, 92, died Friday, Dec. 8 at the Butler County Hospital.

Pall bearers were William Potter, Lester Selden, Leonard Davis, Wayne Ruth, George McCracken and Louis Kallenbach. Burial was in the Circle Mound Cemetery, Rising City.

David John McMeekin, son of George and Margaret McMeekin, was born Nov. 27, 1886, in County Down near Belfast, Ireland. He came to this country with his parents at the age of 15. They lived in Chicago for a few months, then moved to a farm four miles north of Shelby. They resided there for three years, later moving to a farm seven miles northwest of Rising City where he engaged in farming with his two brothers, Jim and George, and sister, Lou. After the death of his brothers, he continuted to farm until his retirement in 1964. He moved with his family to David City in 1961.

Mr. McMeekin was a member of the Methodist Church in Rising City. He was a Master Mason in Composite Lodge No. 81, AF & AM of Rising City for 67 years. He received a 50-year pin in 1961 and possessed the Jordan Medal for being the oldest member of his Lodge. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel, son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy McMeekin of Lincoln; two step-daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Margaret) Hunsche of Rising City and Mrs. Tom (Mary Lou) Perry of Shelby; one sister, Mrs. Lou Vance of Huntington Park, Calif., and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
