Ruth Mildred Watson was the daughter of Louis Philip Gessner and Rozella Sarah Bolcen.

On July 26, 1941, Ruth married Lloyd L. Watson. Ruth received her degree from Bowling Green State University. She retired in 1975 after teaching for more than twenty years in the Riley, Lindsey and Fremont school systems. She belonged to Grace Lutheran Church, was a member of the Sandusky County Retired Teacher's Association and a past member of local, state and national teachers' associations. She also was a member of the Sandusky County Historical Society. During 1986-87, she compiled the history of the Fremont Public Schools, for which she received awards from the school board and the Learning and Liberty Foundation of Fremont City Schools. The publication, "Historical Reflections of the Fremont Public Schools: 1816 - 1987" is the first complete published history of Fremont public education.

Ruth is survived by her son, two stepdaughters, one stepson, two grandchildren, and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Vernon.
