Ira T. Scofield of Hale was born July 10, 1916 to Thurman and Addie Scofield and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012. He was 95 years old.
Ira was a farmer and businessman. He started Scofield Insurance and Real Estate in 1945. He was an active real estate developer and a strong supporter of the Hale community for much of his life.
Over the years, he served on the Hale Area School Board, Hale Development Corp., Hale Lions, the Masonic Order, Hale Chamber of Commerce, the Northeastern Board of Realtors and was a lifelong member of the Hale United Methodist Church. His last years were spent contentedly at the Scofield family farm where he was raised.
He is survived by his four children, ...; six grandchildren, ...; and four great grandchildren, ...; his sister, Hope Scharer; sister-in-law, Violet Scofield; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Esther Tottingham Scofield; his parents; and four sisters and two brothers Ruth Brumfield, Ida Cox, Faith Rosser, Alice Scofield, Alfred Scofield and Wendall Scofield.
Visitation will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 14 and 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hale Chapel of the Buresh Funeral Home, 121 S. Washington. The funeral will be at the Hale United Methodist Church, 201 W. Main St., in Hale on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Hale United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or a charity of one's choice .
