Cpl. Donald Snyder, Lapel, Killed In Korea On Oct. 14

Madison County's death toll in the Korean War has been increased by word received by Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder of Lapel that their son. Cpl. Donald Snyder, 22, was killed in action Oct. 14. Mr. and Mrs. Snyder had not heard from their son for some time and were under the impression that he was en route home. They had made plans for his return, when the message from the Defense Department arrived with the sad news that he had been killed. Two sisters of the young many, Mrs. Kathleen Bell, Mrs. Marion Cupp, and two brothers, Charles Snyder and Robert Snyder, reside in Anderson. LAPEL - Cpl. Donald Snyder, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder, here, was killed in action in Korea Oct. 14, according to a Defense Department message received last Friday. He was inducted into the Army in May, 1951, and received training at Ft. Riley, Kans. He was sent to Korea in January, 1952, and had the required number of points to come home. He was in the 31st Infantry. Cpl. Snyder was graduated from Lapel High School in 1948. He served as student manager during his junior and senior years and was sports editor for the school annual. He was employed by Delco-Remy Division and also attended Anderson Business College before entering the service. Besides his parents, he leaves his grandmother, Mrs. James Miller, Lapel; and the following brothers and sisters: Paul Snyder, at home; Myron Snyder, Mrs. Margaret Blake, Mrs. Norma Upton, here; Mrs. Kathleen Bell, Mrs. Marion Cupp, Charles Snyder and Robert Snyder, Anderson. Full Military Rites Schedules For Cpl. Donald Snyder Thursday At Lapel

The body of Cpl. Donald Eugene Snyder, 22, U.S. Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder, Lapel, will be returned to Anderson Tuesday morning from the West Coast. Cpl. Snyder was killed in Korea in action. He was born at Lapel, attended grade and high school there and graduated in 1948. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Lapel. He was an employe of the Delco-Remy Division, General Motors Corp. in Anderson for 2 1/2 years in Plant 7, Dept. 755. He entered military service May 15, 1951 at Ft. Riley, Kans., and went overseas to Korea in December, 1951. He was a member of Company A, 31st Infantry Regiment. He is survived by the parents Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder; four brothers, William, Charles and Robert, Anderson, and Myron, Lapel; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Blake, Lapel; Mrs. Elizabeth Cupp, Anderson; Mrs. Norma Upton, Lapel; Mrs. Kathleen Bell, Anderson, and a grandmother, Mrs. James Miller, Lapel. The remains will arrive Tuesday via train at Anderson when the body will be taken to Fisher Brothers Funeral Home at Lapel. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Lapel EUB Church, with the rev. David Hancock, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded Cpl. Snyder by members of the Bartholomew Whetsel Post 212, Lapel American Legion.
