Perry P. Pingree, 80 Years of Age, Taken by Death
Raised Ten Children to Maturity and Was Resident of County for Past 50 Years.
Fifty years of active work on a Nevada County farm, which followed 10 years of other work in other sections of California, was suddenly concluded yesterday morning when Perry Parker Pingree, died suddenly at his ranch home, one half mile to the right of Auburn highway, four miles from this city.
Mr. Pingree, aged 80 years, 8 months and 20 days, dropped dead a few steps from the old home, while on his way to feed the chickens. He had been in ill health since October7. As he left the house for the outdoors, a daughter cautioned him to return soon. Death was due to heart trouble.
Dr. Vernon Rood had been in attendance on Mr. Pingree since early in the month.
Deceased was a native of Massachusetts was born February 3, 1848. He arrived in California while in his twentieth year and came to Grass Valley ten years later, acquiring the Pingree ranch near Forest Springs, where he resided until death and where he raised a large family of ten children.
In all his many years residence here, he followed farming as a vocation. He was quietly disposed, but a hard and willing worker, retaining a splendid physique until a short time ago.
Surviving children are Mrs. Edward Waite of Calaveras county; John W. Pingree, Auburn; Perley Pingree, Grass Valley; Mrs. C. D. Endrich, San Jose; Mrs. Clove F. Field, Oakland; George H. Pingree, Los Angeles; Eugene S. Pingree, Grass Valley; Dan Pingree, Tahoe City; David Pingree, Winnemucca and Herbert Pingree, Grass Valley. A brother William Pingree resides in this city and several sisters are residents of Massachusetts.
Funeral arrangements had not been made last evening.
