Bonita M. "Bonnie" Kelly, age 86, of Marshall, died on September 24, 2012 at Tendercare of Marshall.
Bonnie was born on July 12, 1926 in Battle Creek to Leon and Edith (Norton) Gore. She has lived in the Marshall area since she was a child and was a 1945 graduate of Marshall High School.
She was married to Lawrence Kelly in 1949. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1974.
Bonnie became a switchboard operator for Michigan Bell during her senior year in high school and worked there until 1949. That year she went to work at Eaton Corporation's Marshall plant as a switchboard operator and lobby receptionist. In 1953 she left Eaton's for the birth of her son. She stayed home with him until he started school and returned to her job at Eaton's in 1958. Bonnie retired from Eaton's in 1986.
Bonnie was a devoted caregiver to both family and friends. She gave freely of her time and spirit to help them through difficult life events. She was an avid reader. Her son Chuck set up feeders in her backyard so that as Bonnie became homebound she could enjoy watching the birds, squirrels and wildlife out of her back window.
Surviving are her son, Leon C. "Chuck" Kelly of Marshall, her grandson Todd Cook of Quincy, her granddaughter Sharon Kelly of Eaton Rapids, her former daughter-in-law and friend Penny Kelly of Marshall, step-granddaughters Courtney (Rob) Banker of Marshall and Stacey (Eric) Phelps of Tekonsha, and nephew Todd (Tammy) Gore of Marshall and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Bernard Gore and Lloyd Gore.
