Private funeral services for Claude Burnett Schmid, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs, John
Schmid, Decatur township, who passed away at 8 o'clock Christmas evening after a few days
illness with scarlet fever, were held at Highland cemetery here Monday morning. Rev. A.
Muehlmeier conducted the services.
Claude was born at Libertyville, Ill., on July 4, 1918. He was christened in Monticello on
Sept 18 of the same year by Rev. Muehlmeier.
Practically his entire life was spent at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
Legler, living southeast of Monticello. He had never been well, but despite this fact he was a pleasant and cheerful little fellow whose presence will be sadly missed.
The deceased was taken sick with scarlet fever on the Tuesday before his demise. At the
same time his mother and brother, Paul, became ill with the same malady. Mrs. Schmid and Paul are now well on the road to recovery.
