Michael D. Doty, 67, of Sullivan, son of Clay and Naomi Davis Doty, passed away Sunday, September 30, in his home surrounded by family after an extended illness.

He was a graduate of Franklin High School and Indiana University. He practiced physical therapy in Sullivan County for over 30 years, retiring from his private practice in 2007.

He thoroughly enjoyed his profession and his patients, which included many injured high school and college athletes over the years from Sullivan and the surrounding area.

He was proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion and the Marine Corps League. His professional memberships included the American Physical Therapy Association, the McKenzie Institute, and the American College of Sports Medicine. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sullivan, and the Elks Lodge 911.

He is survived by his wife Susan H. Doty, whom he married June 28, 1975, son James M. Doty (and wife Elizabeth), daughter Andrea Doty Cook (and husband Phil), granddaughters Savana and Sophia Cook, his in-laws Jim and Nancy Hartman, as well as several cousins, a niece, and nephews.

He loved to talk sports and politics. He was never hesitant to make a new acquaintance or help someone in need. He was proud of his family and dearly loved his many friends and his loyal dog, Frank.

Graveside Services will be Friday, October 12, at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan at 2:30pm with reverends Michael Brockway and Eddie Hammond officiating. A celebration of life will follow at the Sullivan Elks Club.
