Ethel M. Shimp, age 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at her residence in Selma following a brief illness.

She was born October 17, 1924 in Kermit, West Virginia. She retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company in 1983. She loved quilting, crocheting, sewing, cake decorating, and spending time with family.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Mae Boggs; two granddaughters, Ruth Denise (husband-Barry) Whisnant, and Michelle Lee Murdock; four great-grandchildren, Hunter E. Whisnant, Sarah D. Boggs, Greyson L. Whisnant, and Tyler Murdock; one sister, Melva Howard; three brothers, Billy Chafin, Harry (wife-Jewel) Chafin, and Ervin Chafin. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a special friend of 40 years, Barbara W. Maddy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Shimp; four sisters, Lorraine Estep, Ruth Murphy, Louise Howard, and Nora Cunningham; one brother, Bobby Chafin; and parents, William and Jane Chafin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Lewis officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1220 Meridian St., Anderson, IN 46016 or Ball Memorial Hospice, 2401 W. University Ave., Muncie, IN 47303.
