George was the last child born to George Daniel and Florence A. (Bell) Buswell. George was raised on the family farm except for the year the family lived in Virginia when he was a baby. At almost 18 years old, George, his sister Lizzie Buswell, and their mother moved to their new home in Brook. During this period in his life, George worked as a hired man during planting and harvesting seasons. He had a "dray" business taking people to and from the local train stations. He also hauled clay to the tile mill in Brook. He married Minnie Rosella McFarland on April 26, 1908 at the home of her parents. Their daughter Rena was a toddler when the family moved to a farm near Emerado, North Dakota. In 1917, they returned to his birthplace and lived on the family farm for ten years before settling in their home in Ade. During that time he had a local route to sell eggs and also sold fresh produce in Gary. After retirement, he often spent his winters in Florida.

After Minnie's death in 1943, George married Bernice Henry Livingston who died two months before George passed away.

When George died, he was survived by his daughter Rena (Buswell) Key who was a local celebrity in Newton County as she was the first woman from there to pilot a plane and to fly solo; this was at the Purdue Airport in 1935-36. Rena later taught in Indianapolis Business College. In addition to Rena, George was also survived by three grandchildren, Betty, Jim and Patty.

George and his wives were buried in the Buswell Cemetery.
