Addie, age 17, was murdered along with her sister, Ella Beck, age 19 by Ella's husband, Eugene W. Beck in Clayton, Georgia. He was in an alcoholic rage and afraid that Ella was going to leave him and go back to her parents' home in Cumming with Addie. Their distraught father, Dr. Samuel S. Bailey, brought their bodies back to Cumming. Their gravestones are conjoined. What made Addie's death particularly poignant was the fact that she was due to be married just a few days after she was shot and killed. The resultant trials of Eugene Beck were written about widely in the newspapers of the day.

Sweetly sleep, angel sisters,
No more from your slumber
Will you be awakened by pistol shots
From the bothers of earth you were driven,
But the gates of heaven were opened to let you in.
