Lucille Reagan Battle, 83 of the Qualla Community, died Friday, Dec 31, 2010 in Harris Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. Born March 31, 1927 in Smokemont that is now a part of the Great Smoky Mtn Natl Park, she moved to the Qualla Community where she was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. Lucille was affectionately known as "Granny" to all of her friends and family. Her greatest pleasures were to spend time in the garden, cook, and welcome anyone into her home. She will be remembered by all for her selfless caring and devotion to all the generations of her family. She spent the last 8 years of her life in Mountain View Manor, and although she struggled with various physical challenges in her last years, her spirit and devotion were not weakened. Her love and kindness will leave a legacy to all who knew her, and she will be missed by many.
She was preceded in the death by her parents, Melvin and Minnie Wilson Reagan; her husband Jake Battle; and her sister, Maxine Reagan Bowles. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. She is survived by her children Glenn Bumgarner and Cindy Watkins, both of Whittier, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 niece.
