Carl Powers, 95, of Bedford County, was called to glory to be with his late wife of 68 years, Gladys on Monday, October 1, 2012. Carl was born January 27, 1917 in Toms Creek, Virginia and lived in the Roanoke area most of his life. He was the son of the late Webb and Verdie Powers. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Carl was a member of the Vinton VFW and longtime member of the South East Lions Club. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Rev. Olander English officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to Berkshire Health Care Center and to Medi Hospice for their tender and loving care of Dad and Mom.
