On Tuesday morning, December 28 Jane Atcheson, beloved wife of the late John James passed to her reward at the age of eighty-nine. The funeral took place from her late residence on the tenth line of Ramsay to St Paul's church on Thursday afternoon, where the funeral service was conducted by Rev Mr Green. The remains were then taken to their resting place in the Anglican Cemetery near the ninth line. The late Mrs James was born in Cavan in the County of Leitrim, Ireland in the year 1831 and at the age of eight years came to this country with her uncle the late Hugh Mitchell. Seventy-one years ago she was married to the late John James of Smiths Falls. There they resided for a few years. About fifty years ago they move to Almonte, where the deceased had since resided. She was of a kindly thoughtful and cheerful disposition and possessed many estimable virtues which endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. As a consequence her demise is deeply regretted and severely felt. Although she had suffered for a number of years, she bore it patiently. The late Mrs James was a mother of a large family, William of Sault Ste Marie; John of Sudbury; Albert of Vancouver, B.C.; Samuel of Prospect; Annie, Mrs Robert Metcalfe, of Pakenham; Thomas, Charles and Walter of Almonte; David deceased; Robert deceased; while two died in infancy. The pall-bearers were Thomas, William, John Samuel, Charles and Walter James. The funeral was very largely attended. All the children were present except Albert of Vancouver, B.C.
