Born in Brunswick, Chariton, Missouri. Was the eldest of five girls. Jennie was 15 years old when her father died of a heart attack. Her mother sewed for other people and went to work as a tobacco stemmer to support the family. She took down with pneumonia and died when Jennie was 19 years old leaving 4 girls without family.
The girls were farmed out to different homes. Jennie took nursing classes. Married Henry Bishop Bascom in 1904 and moved to Sedalia where he engaged in printing for the Sedalia Democrat. After 13 years of marriage and two children, Henry died in 1917. In 1920 she lost her son Enlow from pneumonia. She took her daughter Lillian to Shelbina to get her picture taken and met Alfred John Stroud. They were married in 1923. Alfred lived to be over 102 years of age.
When her sister Willie was 13 years old she moved in with Jennie until she and Frank Lovelace were married. Mollie also lived with them for a while.
Jennie lived to be 94 years old. She had a hard life but was always able to make the best of everything. She was a loving sister, mother and aunt.
