Longin John Sonski, 73, of 60 Hall Hill Rd., Somersville section of Somers, beloved husband of Mary Margaret (Patenaude) Sonski, died Sunday (Nov. 26) at Johnson Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Longin and Antonia Sonski and was a lifetime resident of the community. He was an Army Air Corp Pilot of B- 25's, serving with the 13th Air Force in the 75th and 42nd Bomb Squads during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre. Longin was a graduate of Central Connecticut University and received his Masters Degree from American International College. He was an Industrial Arts Teacher for the Springfield School System for 35 years and taught at Springfield Technical High School for 20 years, retiring in 1984. Longin was a communicant and altar server at All Saints Church, member of All Saints Council #4303, Knights of Columbus, serving for many years as Treasurer of the Building Association, a member of the 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was Commander of the Buck Dubiel Post #101, American Legion. Besides his wife, he is survived by a beloved son and daughter-in-law, Paul M. and Janice Sonski of North Hollywood, CA; two beloved daughters and a son-in-law, Joan N. Sonski of West Hartford, Marybeth and Richard Marquardt of Somersville; three brothers, Alex and Albin Sonski of Bloomfield, and Peter Sonski of Somersville; three grandchildren, Cleo and Rachel Sonski, and Joshua Marquardt. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Legienza. Funeral services will be Thursday, 9 a.m. from the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., (Rte. 190) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at All Saints Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends at the Somers Funeral Home, Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Church, School Street, Somersville 06072 or to the Somers Volunteer Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, Box 356, Somers 06071.
