=======================

John William Navis was called to his eternal home April 1, 1950. He was born December 20, 1858, at Lintelo, Gelderland Province, Netherlands. He came to America in 1881 at the age of 21 years, with his mother and other relatives and friends. They settled at Oostburg, Wisconsin, where they lived for a number of years. Later he came to Phillips County, Kansas, where he took a homestead in Dayton Township.

In 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Dena Harmelink of Oostburg, Wisconsin. To this union were born six children - three girls and three boys. His wife and two daughters preceded him to the Heavenly Home.

Those left to mourn his loss are: G.H. Navis of Chester, Nebraska, in whose home he has lived most of the time since his wife's death, and where he was loved and cared for, until he was called Home; Harry Navis of Prairie View, Kansas, Mrs. Martha Nonhoff of Lynden, Washington, and John Navis of Denver, Colorado. Elven grand-children and five great-grand children also survive him.

Mr. Navis was one of the pioneer settlers who endured the hardships of pioneer life. He became a member of the Reformed Church of America, when a youth. He was a tireless worker in his church, a man of prayer and faith, giving pre-eminence to the cause of Christ and His Kingdom.

He was faithful in attendance at church and Sunday School, until the in-roads of old age made it impossible to attend any longer.

His passing will leave an empty place in the home where he has been tenderly cared for.

Brief services were held at the Bachelor-Faulkner Mortuary in Chester on Sunday, April 2. Further services and burial were at Prairie, View, Kansas, on April 3.
