Karl was born in Chicago on June 19, 1938. He was the son of the late Carl Butler and Claire Butler Cook. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant from the Air force in 1979 after which he had a career in the Criminal Justice System of State of Texas. He held an Associates degree and was a member of Mensa. Karl held a passion for new technologies and one of his favorite pastimes involved computers.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Butler of Abilene: son Eric Butler of Abilene, daughter Kerry Terral (husband Monty) and grandson Travis Terral of Mineral Wells, grandson Mitchell Terral (wife Destiny) and great grandson Mason Terral of New Mexico. Additional survivors include his sisters Nancy Scharsich of Brevard, North Carolina and Cathy Rose of Saint Albans, Vermont and brother, Paul Cook of Houston Texas.
