MRS. JAMES ACKERLY DEAD
END COMES THIS MORNING AT HOME SOUTHEAST OF TOWN

Well Known Woman, 81, Survived By Seven Children - Lived Here 30 Years


Mrs. James Ackerly, 81 years of age and a well known resident of Jasper county, died at 7 o'clock this morning at her home five miles southeast of Carthage following a short illness from cold and from a complication of ailments due to old age.
Mrs. Ackerly whose maiden name was Sarah West was born in Lexington, VA., in 1843, and came to Jasper county with her husband about thirty years ago. Mr. Ackerly has been dead 12 years.
Seven children survive; Mrs. Florence Zimmerman, Chicago; Seth Ackerly, Roy Montana; Mrs. Frona Jacques, Pittsburg, KS., Mrs. Mamie Casey, Euguene, OR., Mack Ackerly, Kansas City; Hope Ackerly, Davers, Montana; and Mrs. Kate Thacker, Carthage.
Mrs. Jacques, Mrs. Thacker and Mack Ackerly were with their mother when she died. In addition to the sons and daughters Mrs. Ackerly reared a grandson, Hugh Pence, who made his home with her. Mrs. Rita Stearnes of Carthage is a granddaughter.
Mrs. Ackerly was a member of the Bethel Church, the oldest member of the church in point of years. She was a charter member of the Bethel Ladies' Aid and the first one belonging to it to die.
The funeral probably will be held tomorrow afternoon from the residence with Rev. Mr. Foster of Carl Junction, formerly pastor at Bethel officiating. Mr. Foster also conducted the funeral of Mr. Ackerly 12 years ago.
Burial will be at Fullerton Cemetery four miles south of Carthage. The Ulmer Undertaking Company is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
