Lawrence and ELizabeth (Johnson) Heinlein moved to Illinois in 1848 and settled near Springfield. They farmed there throughout the Civil War, moving to Bates county, Missouri in 1883, driving from Illinois overland in a Covered wagon and locatingd on a farm in Spruce township. Lawrence and Elizabeth resided upon a farm until his retirement to a home in Butler in 1896.

Sons Samuel, Oscar and Harvey, along with sister Alma, relocated with the family while Francis "Frank" Marion Heinlein stayed in Illinois. He lived in Blue Mound, Illinois and died in Decatur. Both of these towns are in  Macon county.

Frank had 3 wives: Althea May Rhodes, Henrietta "Rhetta" Taylor and Mary Kreuger.

His children included:  Arthur, Roy, Allie, Earl, and Bessie.
