Elder William Priest was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, March 4, 1808. His ancestors were Welsh; his grandfather and two of his brothers came from Wales about the year 1730. His father's name was John and his mother's name was Anna Neal. His father died when William was nine years old. Opportunities for obtaining an education were limited, and what he had, he got by earnest application. On Jan 7, 1830, he was married to Miss Sarah H. Payne. She was born in August, 1805, and died Sep 15, 1878. Seven children were born, five boys and two girls. She became a member of Thumb Rud Church (which was organized in the year 1762) in the year 1831. William allowed himself to get into politics and served in the State Senate of Missouri (having moved to Missouri and to Ralls County in 1832), for four years from 1846-1850. In February 1853, the church granted his license to Preach. In August of the same year, he was ordained to the full work of the gospel ministry. The churches that he had first were Flint hill, Bear creek, North Fork, and South River, and had pastoral charges of these four Churches for more than thirty five years. For twenty years these churches were attended in all kinds of weather on horseback, and the Association that he attended were attended in the same manner. He attended a church at Spencerburg when it was called Spencer Creek. Elder William Priest, one of the pioneer settlers of Missouri and Ralls County, died at the home of his son, W. H. Priest, in Lincoln CO, MO on Monday, March 28, 1892, aged 84 years, 24 days. He was buried at Flint Hill Church March30.
