George Washington Scott

Educator. He was the founder and main benefactor of the school that eventually became Agnes Scott College (first known as the Decatur Female Seminary in 1887). He was a Decatur industrialist who in 1890 donated land, equipment, the first building, and money for a permanent endowment to the school. In 1906 it was renamed in honor of his mother, and in 1907 it became one of the first accredited colleges or universities in Georgia.
