Sister Elrita Beer, 76, of Holy Family Convent, died Tuesday morning, October 16, at Holy Family Convent.
Funeral serivces will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. The Rev. Gerald Walker OFM Cap will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
Sister Beer, the former Elizabeth Catherine Beer, was born March 17, 1906, at Petoskey, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Anna Kirchner Beer. She entered the convent in 1924 and professed her vows August 14, 1927. She recieved her BA degree from St. Norbert College at DePere and received credits at Notre Dame University and Michigan State University at East Lancing(sic), Michigan. Sister Beer taught school at St. John School, Wellsburg, Delaware; St. Mary School, Ohio; St. Paul School, Manitowoc; The Guardian Angels School, Oneida; St. Mary School, Kaukauna; St. Mary School, Hilbert; St. Francis School, Hollandtown; St. Patrick School, Maple Grove; St. Joseph School, Waukesha; St. Theresa School, Appleton; St. Anna School, New Holstein and St. Agnes School, Green Bay. Sister Beer also taught school at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Michigan; St. Ambrose, Iron Wood, Michigan; Catholic Central School, Menominee, Michigan and St. Francis de Sale, Michigan. Sister Beer retired to the convent in 1979.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Chariety (sic) and a sister, Sister Pauline Beer of St. Philip Convent, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening where a prayer service will be held at the convent chapel at 7 p.m. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of arrangements.
