Janesville - Elaine S. Starks, age 78, a lifelong Janesville resident, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 23, 2005 at Alden Meadow Park Health Center, Clinton, WI. She was born April 29, 1926 in Janesville, the daughter of the late Harlowe and Hilda (Ambrose) Clarke. On May 28, 1944 she married George A. Starks in Janesville; he preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2004. Elaine was a home maker whose life centered around her family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family. She very much enjoyed camping and fishing with George, and always loved taking walks and enjoying the outdoors. Her other interest was reading, especially western novels and stories.

She is survived by her five daughters: Georgene Wienke, Connie (Jim) Thompson, Carol (Tom) West, Shirley (fiancé David Zirbel) Neumueller, and Karen (fiancé Donald McCoic) Stricklin, all of Janesville; her 2 brothers, Harlowe (Marcy) Clarke of California and Duane (Janice) Clarke of Adams Friendship, WI; her 3 sisters: Marjorie (Glen) Howard of Janesville, Margaret (Lloyd) Wincapaw of Fayetteville, OK, and Hilda (Don) Kramer of California; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lucille Clarke and Anna Schiefelbein; a brother, Paul Clarke; and by her son-in-law, Ron Wienke.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 at the Milton Lawns Memorial Chapel, with Rev. David Javan officiating. Entombment will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call on Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in Elaine's name may be made to her family. Elaine's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Alden Meadow Park Health Center, and to the wonderful staff at HospiceCare, Inc. for all their love and care for Elaine. The Whitcomb-Lynch-Albrecht Funeral Home, Janesville, is assisting her family with arrangements.
