Steven John Serr, son of Art and Elaine (Meidinger) Serr was born on April 8, 1948 in Eureka. This is the area where he was raised and attended school graduating from Eureka High School in 1966. He attended Northern State University in Aberdeen where he received his degree in music education. He was employed at the Java Public School in Java, SD where he served as their music instructor until 1978. At this time Steve returned to Northern State University earning a second degree in business administration.

Steve was elected McPherson County Auditor in 1983, a job which he was committed to and held until the time of his death. For many years Steve also did accounting work for several businesses in Leola and Eureka. Steve had a passion for music. Over the years he directed numerous church choirs in surrounding communities and served as director of the Long Lake Community Band. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football and baseball games in his free time. He will be remembered by many as the voice behind the microphone at the Eureka Lakeside Ballpark where he volunteered countless hours as announcer and score keeper for many Eureka Teener, Legion and Amateur baseball games.

Grateful for having shared Steve's life are one brother, Tim (Bonnie) Serr, Eureka; two nephews, T.J. (Kelly) Serr and Lorne (Samantha) Serr, Aberdeen and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Elaine Serr and one infant sister Mary Ann Serr.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials which will be distributed to local organizations in Steve's memory.
