Betty W. Treacle

etty W. Treacle, 81, of Gnadenhutten, formerly of Bowerston, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at her home after a period of declining health. Born May 31, 1931 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late William and Anna (Palmer) Addleman.
Betty grew up in Bowerston and was a graduate of Bowerston H.S. in 1948 before marrying James Edward "Ed" Treacle on November 19, 1949. They enjoyed nearly fifty years of marriage together until his passing on August 10, 1999. They were blessed with five children, William E. (Shirley) Treacle of Massillon, Robert E. Treacle of Lexington, Nebraska, Nancy (Gregory) Bose of Uhrichsville, Edwina Varela of Gnadenhutten and James V. (Joann) Treacle of Bolivar; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren with another expected. Betty is also survived by a sister, Shelby (Eugene) Willoughby of Bowerston; a brother-in-law, Terry Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Delberta Wilson; a daughter-in-law, Diane Treacle; and a grandson, as well as her parents and husband.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Betty worked as a telephone operator for a number of years and had also cooked for several area restaurants. Until her health prevented her, she was very active in her church and community. A former longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. For over a decade, she has been a member of Uhrichsville First Moravian Church where she will be lovingly remembered for sharing her gift of baking delicious sugarcakes and Lovefeast buns for church occasions. For thirteen years, she was active with the Boy Scouts of America, and also volunteered for the Girl Scouts and for Headstart. For five years, she served as the Secretary for Clayweek.
Services for Betty, officiated by Rev. William E. Surber, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Tunnel Hill Cemetery near Bowerston. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Betty's memory are encouraged to do so by a charitable contribution to Uhrichsville First Moravian Church.
