Margaret Williams Berkeley, daughter of Col. Edmond Berkeley and the former Mary Lawson Williams, was born August 5th 1864 at the family home, Evergreen, in Prince William County, Virginia. At the time of her birth, her father was serving with the 8th Virginia Infantry, CSA. Margaret was one of thirteen children.
In 1885, Margaret married Aderton Boykin Nance, son of Dr. Rutherford Nance and the former Elizabeth Gardner Goffe. Together, they would have six children: Mary S., Bessie Rutherford, Frances Lawson, Edmond Berkeley, Rutherford Lawson, and Helen Berkeley.
Margaret Nance departed this life at the age of 78 on June 4th 1943, just two months after her beloved husband, Aderton had died. She was laid to rest next to him in the Old section of Greenville Cemetery.
