Sister Salome Antoine, 89, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, February 25, 1992, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Presiding at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born February 24, 1903, in Clare, Iowa, daughter of the late Fred and Salome Collin Antoine. She entered the Convent in 1926 and professed her vows in 1939. Sister Salome earned a B.A. Degree from Rosary College, River Forest, Ill., an M.A. Degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis., and a PhD. Degree from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Sister Salome served as a high school teacher at Holy Family Academy, Manitowoc, Wis.; St. Francis, Hollandtown, Wis.; St. Ambrose, Ironwood, Mich.; St. Mary, Delaware, Ohio; Guardian Angels, West Point, Neb.; and was the principal of St. Francis Xavier High School, Petoskey, Minn. She also served as a secretary and chauffeur at Holy Family Convent and was a Professor of English at Holy Family College for 22 years. After retiring from the teaching profession, she served as a pastoral minister at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, Wis.; St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Neb.; and St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, Wis. Since 1985?? she has been residing at Holy Family Convent.
Survivors include The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Schade of Algoma, Iowa, Mrs. Salome Currans of Graettinger, Iowa, Teresa and William Graff of Mallard, Iowa, Rose and Ray Geelan of Ruthvan, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Antoine of Bancroft, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Wednesday evening. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted with funeral arrangements.
