L/Cpl. Steven Charles Tyler Cates of the United States Marine Corps, answered the call from His Country to defend this Nation. He answered that call with his life. He filled the hearts of all who knew him with love and devotion to God Family and Country. He played in the Mount Juliet High School Band and Graduated from that School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and became one of the Proud and the Few. He went to Iraq where he died defending his beliefs of a free nation. He left many friends and relatives to mourn his loss. While in the Service he attained the rank of Lance Corporal and was awarded the National Defense Metal and the Purple Heart. He will be missed by his Comrades in Arms and will be missed by all of us who were once Marines. I salute you and mourn your leaving us after such a short time. In keeping with the tradition of the United States Marine Corps, that once a Marine always a Marine and every Marine is your brother. I say goodbye little Brother may God bless and keep you.L/Cpl. Cates was a member of 1st. Battalion, 7th. Marines Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. He lost his life to enemy action in the Anbar Province of Iraq.
