Spc. Josiah H. Vandertulip of Irving, Texas was a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church and graduated from Irving High School in 2002 where he played on Irving Schools Hockey Team, The Wolf Pack. He was one of four brothers and a sister. Josiah was active in church and enjoyed playing ice hockey and downhill skiing. He entered the Army shortly after graduating from high school. Family members described him as a cutup who liked to do things differently, even coloring his brown hair blond, then green, before cutting it into a Mohawk and shaving it off. Josiah was a very unique and committed individual, a charming and witty person who liked to cut-up and keep those around him happy, but he could also be very stubborn at times. He loved hockey, video games, snow skiing and watching movies. But most of all Josiah loved God, his family and his country. He had been home only three months after a year long tour in South Korea when he volunteered to fight in Iraq. He figured that if he volunteered for duty, he might be able to keep some husband and father from having to leave a family behind to go to war. Josiah is survived by his parents, Louise and Robert and his siblings. After his death, a case of his favorite chicken noodle soup sat on the piano in the family's living room, part of a package that will never be sent. He was killed at age 21 when his dismounted patrol came under enemy fire in Baghdad.
