The former Catherine Marie Hersant was born on July 17, 1921 in Phlox, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Hayek) Hersant. She entered the Convent in 1937 and professed her vows in 1940. Sister Hilda earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Sister Hilda served as a Nurse's Aide at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc and St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She served as a teacher of elementary grades at Holy Cross, Cross Village, Michigan; SS Peter and Paul, Kiel, St. Philip and St. Joseph, Green Bay, Sacred Heart, Oshkosh, St. Anthony, Oconto Falls, St. Joseph, Rice Lake, St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay, Holy Rosary, Kewaunee, St. Anthony, Neopit, Wisconsin; St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio; St. Peter Indian Mission School Bapchule, Arizona, Topawa Elementary School, Topawa, St. Peter Mission School, Bapchule, Arizona and Immaculate Conception, Yuma, Arizona. Sister Hilda also served as a principal at Sacred Heart, Manitowoc and Neopit, Wisconsin and school nurse at St. Peter Mission School, Bapchule, Arizona. Since 2008, she had been residing at St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister: Clarice Rodowca, Shawano; a brother-in-law: John Rodowca, Bonduel; and a sister-in-law: Beverly Hersant, Mukwonago, Wisconsin. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (TODAY), September 15, 2011. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
