Lawrence Paul Thoenen, 69, of Jefferson City, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at the Capital Region Medical Center. He was born June 22, 1934 in Frankenstein, a son of the late Joe and Barbara Dudenhoeffer Thoenen. Lawrence was united in marriage on May 30, 1959 at St. George Catholic Church in Linn, Missouri to Margaret A. Riegel who survives at the home.

Mr. Thoenen was a 1953 graduate of Fatima High School, Westphalia and a member of the St. Joseph Cathedral in Jefferson City. Lawrence served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He was the owner and operator of Lawrence Thoenen Home Builders. He built over 900 homes in and around the Jefferson City area. It was his delight to help people get in a new home and assisted them with financing and work equity.

He was instrumental in forming the local Home Builders Association and was a member of the National Association of Home Builders. He shared his many talents with family and friends helping them to get a start in business. Lawrence enjoyed his family and hosted many family gatherings. He also enjoyed teaching the family and friends fishing, boating and skiing. He took great pride in landscaping with flowers and started plants in his own greenhouse.

He is survived by one son: Kenneth Thoenen and wife Carol of Jefferson City; two daughters: Karen Werner and husband Brad; Joyce Bremer and husband Steve both of Jefferson City; grandchildren include Kevin Thoenen and wife Lena of Columbia, Adam and Lance Thoenen, Kylie, Heather, Leslie and Blake Werner, Levi and Mya Bremer, all of Jefferson City. Other survivors include brother Joe Thoenen and wife Evelyn; sisters Mary Ann Gilbert of Jefferson City, Iona Lamb and husband Charles, Kansas City, Josephine Lamb, Chamois; sisters-in-law Evelyn Thoenen, Jefferson City and Bernita Thoenen, Mexico; 68 nieces and nephews and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marvin & Mary Riegel, Roman & Mildred Falter, Mike Riegel, Larry & Mildred Frye, Martin & Mary Riegel, Albert Riegel and Roger & Theresa Backes. He was preceded in death by a daughter Judith Thoenen-Baldwin, two grandchildren Keith and Jacqueline Baldwin, two brothers Alfred Thoenen of Jefferson City and Leo Thoenen of Mexico.

Friends will be received from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Cathedral, with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2004, at St. Joseph Cathedral, with Fr. Daniel I.J. Lueckenotte officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Joseph Cathedral or School.
