There he met and married Mary Rosland. After a few years the family moved to Strawn, IL where Mary died, leaving Michael with a step-daughter and two small sons.
Michael soon moved the family to a farm north east of Sibley where he worked for Michael Sullivant, the large landowner of the area. He later retired from that farm and lived until his death with his oldest son's family.
Note: Cemetery Record of 1963 says b1846 but the Sibley Centenniel Book of 1978 says b1845. Researchers should check.
Further suggestions about birth dates from an unregistered FAG researcher: Census reports for 1850,60 & 70 suggest birth date 1842-43. Later census reports including 1900 give month and 1945. Anyone doing family research will want to work on this.
