The former Mary Essert was born on April 3, 1917 in Dickenson, North Dakota, daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Kleiner) Essert. She entered the Convent in 1939 and professed her vows in 1942. Sister Roque served as a homemaker at Sacred Heart, Sherwood, St. Ann, New Holstein, SS Peter and Paul, Kiel, St. Rose, Chiltonville, St. Mary, Brillion, St. Peter, Middleton, St. Joseph and Catholic Memorial, Waukesha, St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, St. John, Antigo, St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay, Holy Family Convent and Roncalli, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; St. Benedict, Cambridge, Catholic Central, Steubenville, Ohio; Marist Seminary, Washington, D.C. and St. Mary, West Point, Nebraska. She also performed various tasks at San Damiano, Slinger, St. Paul Manor, Kaukauna, Holy Family Convent, St. Clare, Silver Lake College and St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Since 2001, she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sister Regula Essert, OSF. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held a 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Nathan Jaskulski, OFM with burial at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
