MARION -- Harry L. Davis, 90, of Marion passed away at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at home.

He was born in Marion on May 27, 1915, the son of Harry M. and Edith Inez (Parrish) Davis.

He attended Marion schools and was a graduate of Marion High School.

Harry was united in marriage to Elizabeth Grace "Betty" Short on Feb. 12, 1939, in St. Louis.

He answered the call of this nation in World War II by serving in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After his faithful service to this nation he was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1946.

Harry worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 27 years until his retirement in 1977.

His church membership was with First Baptist Church of Marion for many years. He also was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 89 A.F. & A.M. and the Royal Arch Chapter 100, both of Marion.

He loved the farm west of town that he lived on for many years and enjoyed planting crops and working with the tractors and equipment.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Grace "Betty" Davis of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Warren Douglas of Marion; son, Steve Davis of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren, Deborah Hearn and her husband, Gary, and Kirk Douglas and his wife, Carleen, all of Marion, Christine Saso and her husband, Mark, of Altamonte Springs and Janet Brooks and her husband, John, of Deltona, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Leah Douglas and Erin Douglas, both of Marion, Grant Saso and Elaine Saso, both of Altamonte Springs, Julia Brooks of Deltona and John Miller, who is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force in Japan, and his wife, Cassandra, and their daughter, Cierra Miller, who is Mr. Davis' only great-great granddaughter; his sister, Georgia Ruhe of Marion; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Linda Short of Wis.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Short of Moline; and other extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Carl Ruhe.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion.

Visitation will be between noon and 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Following visitation, family and friends will leave Marion for the graveside committal service at 2:30 p.m. in Cana Cemetery, north of Goreville, with the Rev. Floyd Doris presiding. Those wishing to attend the graveside service only should gather at the cemetery prior to 2:30 p.m.

For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to either First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial contributions may be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
