Mrs. Violla Shuffett Bishop, daughter of the late Mr. Asbury Shuffett and Mrs. Elizabeth Wright Shuffett, was born 14 June 1884 in Green Co. and departed this life at 5 p.m. Thursday 3 July 1975 at her home in the New Salem Community of Green Co. She was 91 years, 1 month and 11 days of age.
She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Oak Grove Separate Baptist Church at the time of her death.
She united in marriage to Mr. Bud Bishop 14 Oct 1909 and he preceded her in death 27 Jan 1972. To this union were born 4 sons and 4 daughters. Surviving are William Bishop, Greensburg, Ivan Bishop, Louisville; Mrs. Arvin Davenport, Mrs. Loy Davis and Mrs. Harvey Hood, all and [sic] Greensburg and Mrs. J.T. Light, Glasgow. Olman C. Bishop preceded his mother in death 28 Jan 1928 and Elmer Bishop preceded his mother in death 8 Jan 1945.
Mrs. Bishop is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
The remains were at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home where funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Sat 5 July 1975 with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Revs. F.T. Pepper and Carlis Comption officiated. Pallbearers were: Charles Davenport, William Davenport, Elmer Louis Davis, Rollin Gardner, Boyce Davis, and Fred Mays.
