Casualty of the Great War, Francis served as a Trooper in the New Zealand Training Unit~Service No:58206.

He was 20 and the son of Eliezer and Ellen Fanny * Gillon [nee Backhurst] of Mauku, Auckland.

*-This is how her birth was registered in Kent in 1869, but she later came to be known as Frances Ellen.

GILLON, Francis H, Trooper, 34th Mounted Rifles, died in Featherston Military Hospital on Thursday night, the certified cause of death being cerebro-spinal meningitis.
