She was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Masonville, the daughter of the late Warner and Minnie Puffer Taylor.
Ruth graduated from the Bainbridge High School Class of 1935 and the Ridley-Lowell Business and Technical Institute, Binghamton.
She married Wilson "Turk" Olmstead in Bainbridge on June 17, 1950.
Mrs. Olmstead was employed for more than 20 years by the Borden Chemical Company, Bainbridge, until her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Sidney, Sidney Fire Department Auxiliary and the Charles L. Jacobi Post No. 183 American Legion Auxiliary, Sidney.
Ruth enjoyed golfing, dancing, family outings and rides in the country to watch the deer. Her fresh baked pies were a very popular item at the church and auxiliary bake sales.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wilson "Turk" Olmstead of Sidney; a son, Richard Olmstead of Kankakee, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne and Jerry Birdsall of Sidney, Kathy and Paul Cummings and their children Brett and Brenna of St. Peters, Mo.; three sisters, Alice Wilcox of Bainbridge, Charlotte Cole of Bainbridge, Pearl Gilmour of Norwich; two sisters-in-law, Helen Taylor of Bainbridge, and Mable Cable of Sidney. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Samuel Taylor, predeceased Ruth.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main Street, Sidney, with the Rev. Pat Robinson pastor of her church, officiating.
Spring burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Friends are invited to call after 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral chapel. Her family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m.
