Police say the body of 28 yr old Johnny Lewis was found Wednesday morning in the driveway of a hillside home in the Los Feliz area near Hollywood. The body of 81-year-old Catherine Davis was inside. They say she may have been beaten and Lewis was the suspect.
Hollywood Legendary Folk Figure. Cathy (as she was affectionately known to her many friends) rented many young screen actors and writers rooms in her tastefully decorated and vintage Hollywood Hills home throughout her life, among them were Val Kilmer, Taylor Negron, Parker Posey, Thomas Jane, Chris Parnell, and Paula Poundstone. She was a kind and loving "surrogate mother" to these and so many other talented young people just getting their start in show business, in the movie and TV business over the years. Actor George Clooney was an occasional guest at some of her parties.

She was born to humble roots in Texas and came to California in the 1950s to attend UCLA. She married and had a baby daughter. She moved into her charming home, which was known as the "Writer's Villa". Located in an affluent part of Los Feliz on Lowey Road in the Hollywood Hills, the house was a silent film-era classic, built in 1927. It was designed to look like an Italian Villa. Her marriage soon ended, and with the feminist movement, she became a modern self-reliant woman, at once bold, colorful, simple, direct, and easy. A quintessentially modern California individual living life on her own terms and loving her life with her many friends and extended family, many of whom lived at her "villa" at one point or another.

Just before her passing, Cathy was busy writing a biography of Phoebe Apperson Hearst, mother of William Randolph Hearst.

She had rented a room in her house to "Sons of Anarchy" actor Johnny Lewis, who would brutally murder Cathy, before running up to the terrace above the parking lot and plunging 50 feet to the pavement below, killing himself. It is unknown why he struck and killed Cathy or whether his own demise, moments later, was an accident or suicide. When the police entered her room, they found her battered body and her beloved pet cat, Jessie, which had been brutally killed and dismembered. She had clearly been working on her unfinished book, pages of which were spread out on her bed. Cathy's breakfast lay untouched on the kitchen table. Strangely, all mirrors in the home had been smashed and much of her folk art collection had been broken apart.

Cathy's life won't be defined by the tragic way it ended, but by the many Hollywood actors, writers, and friends who drew inspiration, shelter and love from Cathy. A true "Hollywood Mom", legend and true angel to many. She was 81 years old.
