Robert Elias Valentine was born February 16, 1895, in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Irvin Frederick and Berthay May Whitmore Valentine. On December 25, 1923, he married Kathryn Elizabeth Ogle, daughter of Harvey Benjamin and Grace Ellen Keilholtz Ogle. They had 4 children: Betty Jean, Emily Rebecca, Rodney Elias and Melvin Delano Valentine. Robert passed away on November 11, 1937, and was buried on the 14th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery, and was buried on 14th.


From the WW1 Draft Registration Card, June 5, 1917: Robert Elias Valentine, 22, of Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland, was born February 16, 1895 in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland. He was employed as a Carpenter for Charles Sharer, working in different places. He was single and claimed his mother as a dependent. He was medium in height and build, with light brown eyes and light brown hair.

Obituary for Robert Elias Valentine from the Frederick Post of Friday, November 12, 1937:

"VETERAN DIES ARMISTICE DAY. Robert E. Valentine Stricken Early Yesterday Morning. Armistice Day claimed the life of another veteran of the World War with the death of Robert Elias Valentine, of Rocky Ridge, Thursday morning. Deceased was the son of Mrs. Bertha M. Valentine and the late Irvin F. Valentine. He died suddenly at 2:45 o'clock at the Frederick City Hospital following his admission there at 5 o'clock Wednesday evening. He was aged 42 years, 8 months, 25 days. He was reported never to have been sick in his life and worked until last week. He had been ill only since Sunday, cause of death was acute cardiac dilation. For the past twenty-five years, he had been a foreman with the E. C. Valentine Company, contractors. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge. He was also a member of the Junior O. U. A. M. and Francis X. Elder Post, American Legion, Emmitsburg. He enlisted with the 304th Division, Supply Train, Company D, in the World War and served in France with the A. E. F. He sailed from the United States on July 14, 1918. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Catherine Ogle, of Creagerstown; his mother, and the following children at home: Betty Jean, Emma R., Rodney E., Melvin D.; one brother, Morris R. Valentine, of Rocky Ridge; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Mumma, of Rocky Ridge; and Mrs. George Shafer, of Boyds. The body was removed to the funeral home Thursday to be prepared for burial and was removed to his home Thursday evening from where funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, followed by services from the Lutheran Church at two o'clock. Interment in cemetery adjoining the church. Rev. P. H. Williams, pastor of the Union Bridge Lutheran Parish, will officiate. M. L. Creager and Son, funeral directors."
