Roy Edwin Trotter, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, at the Glensted United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Roy Edwin Trotter, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.

He was born on a ranch near Pierce, Nebraska, on July 19, 1927. He was the second of eight children born to Grover and Hazel Fairchild Trotter. The Trotter's moved to a farm in Wayne County, Illinois in 1932, and then to Herman, Nebraska in 1942. Roy was baptized at the Herman Methodist Church while in high school.

Roy enlisted in the Navy in April of 1945, he was called to the Great Lakes Training Center after graduation. He served the duration of World War II plus six additional months. Roy married Janice Loftis on August 13, 1945, while on boot leave. He was discharged in May 1946, after serving in Seabees at Guam and Siapan. He was kept in the reserves with final separation in 1954.

Roy and Janice had four children, Suzanne Jo (Trotter) Grooms of Stover, Missouri, Dianne Jean Trotter of Versailles, Missouri, Beverly Kay (Trotter) Schmidt of Kimberling City, Missouri and Steven Roy Trotter of Versailles, Missouri. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Russell Trotter of Herman, Nebraska and Marvin E. Trotter of rural Council Bluffs, Iowa; and two sisters, Ellen (Trotter) Karlin of Fremont, Nebraska and Alma June Jensen of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice of 66 years on January 7, 2012, his parents, Grover and Hazel Trotter, two brothers, Eldon Elmo Trotter and Guy Francis Trotter, and a sister, Caltha Lee Richards.

Roy is a graduate of National Trade School (auto mechanic) of Kansas City, Missouri and Milford Tech (auto body) of Milford, Nebraska, and completed a business law course from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri.

Roy and Janice owned and operated Roy's Body Shop in Osceola, Nebraska for 13 years, then RJ Ranch northwest of Versailles for 23 years and Trotter's Uptown DX in Versailles for several years.

He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, traveling the United States, Canada and Mexico, and especially enjoyed being a "snowbird" on the Texas coastline for 17 winters.

Roy was a member of the Versailles American Legion Post 104 and a member of the 40 & 8, and was a faithful member of the Methodist Church most of his life with his current membership being the Glensted United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, at the Glensted United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Adkison officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in the Glensted Cemetery with Tara Trotter, Tawni Schmidt, Steven J. Trotter, Evan Budd, Darren Boye and Vicki Schmidt serving as casketbearers and Garth Ashbaugh, Raymond Perkins, Bill Decker, Jerry Rank, Dean Thiemann and John Gerlt serving as honorary casketbearers. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles American Legion Post 104 or to the Glensted United Methodist Church.
