Edward Lanning Reames of Gig Harbor, WA passed away on July 10, 2003 at the Weatherly Inn Assisted Living Center.

He was 92 years old. He was born in Tacoma, WA on May 12, 1911 to Lillian Mary Lanning and Alfred Evan Reames. The family moved to Medford Oregon in 1923 where he graduated from Medford High School in 1930, having served as President of the Student Body and business manager for the State Champion Basketball and Football teams.He graduated from Stanford University in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to study Law at the University of Oregon until 1938. His campus activities included President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Stanford and served as Secretary-Treasurer of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity while at Oregon.Upon appointment of his father to the US Senate in 1938, the family moved to Washington DC for three years where Ed was on the office staff for his father, later joining the general accounting office.In 1940, Ed returned to Tacoma where he associated as part owner of Pacific Storage and Distributing Co. with his Aunt and Uncle, Sally and Matt Newell. On May 9, 1942, he was married to Marion Elizabeth Davis.He is survived by his three sons, Evan and wife Sheryl; Alan and wife Nancy and daughter Nicole; David, wife Barbara, son Benjamin, daughter Tiffany, and great-grandson Ethan.Ed was always involved in community activities and organizations. He started out with an appointment of the Tacoma Civilian Council and served four years as Adjutant of the Auxiliary Police and Red Cross Disaster Service. He received a Certificate of Merit from the Mayor and City Commissioner for service rendered. Later he was appointed Director of Civil Defense Transportation and Evacuation.Memberships include: the Elks Lodge No. 174, University Union Club, National Defense Transportation Association, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club (Past President), Tacoma Executive Association (Past President), Tacoma Citizens Advisory Committee for Future Development, Transportation Club, Secretary-Treasurer Stanford Alumni Association, Worshipful Master of State Lodge #68, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Afifi Shrine. His Shrine activities include membership in the Provo Guard. He founded the Greeters and served as President. He was appointed in 1957 to the office of Recorder and retired from that position in 1970 with the title of Recorder Emeritus.Memorial services will be held Monday, July 21, 2003 at 3:00 PM at Mountain View Valley Chapel.
