Pastor Jim was the son of James Lee Sr and Shirley Joan (Able) Furnas. Jim moved to Iowa at a young age. He was involved in hunting, wrestling, football, and rodeoing while in high school. Jim graduated at Indianola High School in 1980. Jim moved to Olathe, Kansas after high school to pursue his education and pastoral calling at Mid-America Nazarene University.

God added some additional plans to Jim's college education. Jim met the love of his life Linda Nungesser while attending Mid-America. Jim and Linda married on January 2, 1988. Jim was a loving father of four awesome children; Joshua, Jamie, Caleb, and Nathan. He was always their biggest fan and supporter in the activities they participated in. Jim was the pastor at the Ottawa Free Methodist Church, Ottawa Church of the Nazarene (Ottawa, KS), Neosho Church of Nazarene (Neosho, MO), and Dayspring Church of the Nazarene (Springfield, MO). Jim was blessed and blessed many lives he encountered.

Jim earned his Masters of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1997. Jim taught as online adjunct professor for Joplin School of Ministry and Nazarene Bible College. Jim enjoyed teaching the word of God to others. The past several years have been a struggle for Jim from health complications related to Juvenile Diabetes. Jim's health continued to worsen. Jim fought hard to remain with his earthly family, but he knew his journey was coming to a close. He knew he would be rejoicing with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, soon. Jim passed in the presence of his loving wife and children.
