OBITUARY.
Edward H. Matterson
At the advanced age of 82 years Edward H. Matterson passed away at his home in Dimock Hollow on the
evening of Frlday, March 28th. He had been in "his usual health, which for some years has not been of the best, to within a few moments of his death. Retiring at the usual time he shortly after called to his daughter saying that he was ill, and almost immediately passed quietly and
painlessly to rest.

He was born April 30th, 1836, on the farm now owned by
James Folts in this town, the son of Oliver and Lydia
Draper Matterson. Both his father and mother came of splendid old New England families, his father coming
from Rhode Island to Morris in his youth with Capt. Dan Smith. His motber was a sister of the late Deacon Samuel Draper. He was one of six children, of whom Mrs. Electa
Bresee of Woodhaven and Mrs. Martha Radley of South New Berlin are the only ones living.

On Aug. 30tb, 1862, Mr. Matterson was united In marriage to Lucina Carr, who survives him, and to them were born eight children, Viola (Mrs. J. R. Padgett), Burton who died in infancy, Mrs. Susie Root, Ellen (Mrs. Wm. Bell), Neva (Mrs. Frank Elliott), who died in 1903, Pearl (Mrs.
Bailey Camp) Miss Lydia Matterson who resides at home and F. Leslie Matterson of South New Berlin.

In the passing of Mr. Matterson almost the last of that generation which recalled the pioneer days is gone. He
had passed his entire life in this town, and had
resided for half a century on the farm where he died. A genial kindly man, he had a wide circle of friends to whom his sudden death came as a most painful surprise.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 1st, at his late residence, his pastor, Rev. F.G. Leonard, of
Morris officiating.
