Mary Louise (Moore) DeMott of West Grove

Mary Louise (Moore) DeMott, 88, passed away quietly in her home on the morning of September 22, 2012. Born in Wilmington Delaware on April 14, 1924, Mary was the daughter of Anna (Lippincott) and Lorenz P. Moore. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Thomas DeMott.

She is survived by her children and spouses, Thomas L. DeMott and Stephanie of Oxford, Anne D. Wingate and Thomas of Lincoln University, Frederick P. DeMott and Virginia of Geneva, Ill. and Katherine D. Lowrey and Michael of Tampa, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Raised in Mount Holly, N.J., Mary graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School (1943). She started her career in office management with Burlington County Breeders Association, N.J. where she met her husband Tom, a veterinarian. They were married in 1944 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mount Holly. They soon moved to Philadelphia where they lived for five years, then moved to Bristol, for two years, and to Kennett Square in 1952. There she became a full-time mother to her children, and active in many aspects of her community. Defining her many contributions, she was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent Choir and Altar Guild for many years. She was a Den mother for Unionville Cub Scout Pack 22, an active member of the Unionville Chadds Ford School District PTA, a 35 year volunteer for the American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services region, a docent for the Brandywine Museum, an active member of the Chadds Ford Area Women's Club, a contributor to the Kennett Symphony Women's League board of directors, a Tick-Tock Day Care Center volunteer, an East Marlboro District elections board member and Senior Citizen Board of Directors participant. She was an active longtime resident of the Jenners Pond retirement community. Interment will be private, however, friends are invited to a memorial service at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, September, 29, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 401 North Union Street, Kennett Square. There will be a reception in the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 201 Crestline Drive Kennett Square, PA 19348 in lieu of flowers.
