NAPIER, BOBBY JOE
Retired Y-12 worker; Wilcats fan. Bobby Joe Napier, 58, of Oak Ridge, died Friday morning, March 8, 1996, at his home of cancer. Mr. Napier began employment April 1, 1975, with Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Y-12 Plant. He was a chemical operator and retired December 21, 1987, from Martin Marietta Energy Systems. Born December 24, 1937, in Harlan, KY, he was the son of Ewell Napier of Detroit, MI, and Joetta Newman. His mother died in 1993. Mr. Napier attended Oak Ridge High School and was an avid fan of the Wildcats football team. Even with his declining health, he attended the games with the help of his friend, Johnny Purnell, who stood by him through his illness, the family said. He met his wife, Joyce Moses Napier, by whom he is survived, while both were students at Oak Ridge High School. The couple married September 9, 1957. Mr. Napier had been a member of Central Baptist Church since 1976, where he was active until his health declined. He was noted for his congeniality and caring love for other people, the family said. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two daughters, Trina Barkhausen and her husband, Jeff Barkhausen, of Oak Harbor, WA; and Vickie Roberts and her husband, Ken Roberts, of Knoxville; a sister, Starla Bubash of Uniontown, PA; and a brother, Glenn Napier of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Napier is also survived by several grandchildren: Michael and Sean McNermey, both of Oak Harbor; Jaret Roberts, Jennifer Roberts, and Jessica Roberts, all of Knoxville; and by an aunt, Polly Walbrecht, of Oak Ridge. A son, David Napier, died in June 1982. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that anyone visiting the funeral home not wear cologne or perfume as Mrs. Napier is extremely allergic. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, March 11, at the funeral home.
