The Rev. Goldman Thomas Dockery, 83, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012. at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.

He was a native of Cherokee County, and the son of the late Harley and Rosie White Dockery.

Goldman was a retired pallet builder. Rev. Dockery had pastored several churches in the area over the years. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Quinton Dockery and Dillard Dockery.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maebell Carter Dockery; two sons, Larry Dockery and wife Diane, and Paul Dockery and wife Ellen, all of Murphy; four sisters, Janie Lovingood, Lura Carter, Nadine Whitener, and Betty Shipman, all of Murphy; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Music was provided by Jerry and Tina Whitener. The Revs. Ronald Patterson, Jimmy Morrow and Edward Carter officiated. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Dockery, Jeff Dockery, Keith Whitener, Wayne Dockery, Kevin Carter and Max Shipman.

The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
